2015 John Owen Jones Award Winner – Alan Richardson

alanOur scholarship winners for 2015-16 are about to start their studies and we thought we’d introduce them to you, starting with actor / singer / dancer Alan Richardson.

All of our shortlisted applicants this year were outstanding and we had a very tough time deciding who should receive the scholarships… In the end it came to separating people by a hair – they all were equally deserving!

Alan’s USP is that he’s a truly gifted falsetto / counter-tenor singer and has spent a lot of time on stage recently playing female roles, not least in Sacha Regan’s award-winning All Male Pirates of Penzance and H.M.S. Pinafore.

With a deep interest in the mechanics of voice, and a huge passion for the theatre and performance, this exceptional artist hopes to bring all strands of his work together in the future, safe in the knowledge that he has trained to the highest standards.

You can see (and hear!) Alan here in the trailer for the 2014 production of H.M.S. Pinafore.

He is currently in rehearsal for the first U.K. tour of the all-male Pirates of Penzance, which kicks off in Richmond on April 15th. So… rehearsing, touring, and studying for his Advanced Professional Diploma with VIDLA. Everyone on the VIDLA Team would like to wish Alan the very best of luck – or at least, enough energy to get by on!
